Lazio’s sporting director has revealed the club will be willing to listen to offers for footballer Sergej Milinkovic-Savic when the transfer market opens. Serbia international has registered five goals and seven assists in 30 matches this campaign, with Blues, Spurs and Red Devils keeping tabs on the footballer.
Sergej is under a deal at the Stadio Olimpico until 2024, with Lazio valuing their player at £50m. Regardless of the negative financial impact of the covid pandemic, it was believed Serie A giants would not part with one of their most valuable midfielder.
However, sporting director Tare says there is the possibility of a deal being struck that suits both Milinkovic-Savic and the club. ‘We certainly don’t need to sell right now,’ Tare said.
‘I think a lot will change on the transfer market because the covid-19 pandemic is a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence that transformed everything, so we have to be creative, but above all clearly on our planning for the present and future.’
‘I think that prices won’t drop for first-rate footballers. Clearly, for the medium and low-end footballers, there will be a downward trend. On Sergej, the boy’s relationship with the city and Lazio will never die because there is a powerful bond that has grown over the years.’
The 25-year-old midfielder was one of the stars of Serbia’s U20 World Cup win in 2015, after which he made his move to the Italian club from Genk in Belgium and quickly impressed in Italy as a complete midfielder, with strength, stamina, proper technique and an eye for goal.
