Chelsea makes Mauricio Pochettino sacking decision as Todd Boehly gives ‘one huge’ clear objective this season

Chelsea makes Mauricio Pochettino sacking decision as Todd Boehly gives him clear objective this season

Newcastle trash Chelsea 4-1 on Saturday afternoon one of the worst game under Pochettino.

However, Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino must have felt some momentum around the club going into the recent international break, but he watched his team crumble at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Chelsea were thrashed 4-1 away at Newcastle in the Premier League, with a capitulation in the second-half standing out as one of the worst halves of the season so far.

There’s now been some speculation regarding the manager’s position in the dugout.

Chelsea pressure

TEAMtalk has now claimed that Pochettino is ‘under increasing pressure’ at Chelsea.

It is explained that the Argentine’s position as manager may be at risk if the club don’t qualify for the Champions League this season.

The report said that Chelsea’s hierarchy are signalling that they back the 51-year-old and intend to give him time to turn things around at Stamford Bridge following his summer arrival.

However, TEAMtalk sources suggests that pressure will rise on Pochettino if Champions League qualification isn’t attainable.

Fabrizio Romano recently shared via his YouTube channel that he’s heard Chelsea’s board still retain faith in Pochettino.

Mauricio Pochettino may feel the heat

As it stands, Chelsea have a long way to go to claw themselves back into the top four positions. Incidentally, a fifth place finish in the league may be enough to return to Europe’s elite club competition next season.

Pochettino’s side currently sit 10th in the league table on 16 points from 13 games. There’s already a 10-point deficit to Tottenham in fifth, while Aston Villa and Liverpool are a further two points ahead of them.

The Blues simply need to win more games to climb the table because winning four games out of 13 is going to leave you rooted in mid-table.

Let’s see if Chelsea can try to breathe new life back into the campaign in the next three fixtures. They host Brighton on Sunday before travelling to Manchester United and Everton for a couple of tough away days.

We’d like to think Pochettino will get time in this project to develop the young Chelsea squad, but there’s a clear objective in place for him. Our concern is he won’t be reaching that this campaign.
