Chelsea offered £40m for £150,000-a-week star

Chelsea are likely to make a huge loss on Alvaro Morata if Sevilla are successful with their offered bid for the out-of-form striker.

The Spanish side are willing to take Morata on loan for the rest of the season and then make the deal permanent in the summer for a further.

However, the Guardian claims that they are looking to pay £5 million for the loan deal and then a further £35 million in the summer – significantly less than the £60 million the Blues paid Juventus for Morata’s services back in July 2017.

Reports in Spain have claimed that Sevilla’s director of football, Joaquin Caparros, has met with Alvaro Morata’s representative Juanma Lopez to discuss a potential move.

Chelsea are understood to be happy for the forward to depart, but only when they have signed a suitable replacement for the £150,000-a-week man, who has endured a frustrating time at Stamford Bridge since his big-money move in the summer of 2017.

The Spaniard scored 24 goals in 72 games across all competitions and recorded brace in his last outing, an FA Cup third-round tie with Nottingham Forest, although he refused to celebrate either goal.

‘Alvaro had a little problem in the last training this morning with his hamstring, so we preferred him to rest,’ Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri told Sky Sports about missed Tottenham Hotspur clash.
