Chelsea player leaves the club permanently after eight years

Chelsea midfielder Marco Van Ginkel has finally left the club on a permanent basis.

Marco Van Ginkel has been a Chelsea player for eight years but has spent most of his time on loan to different clubs. The once talented midfielder arrived at Stamford Bridge with a lot of optimism, but injuries have really been a hindrance in his progress and that has taken his career to a different path.

But his loan days are finished as the player has been snapped by his native club PSV Eindhoven. He spent the last season on loan at PSV and the Dutch giants have announced that they have signed the player permanently. He played for 12 times last season with PSV, scoring one goal in the league.

The player also sent a message to Chelsea for their ‘support’ during his injury days.

“I want to thank @chelseafc for the last 8 years. A big thank you to the club for the unconditional support, especially during my periods of rehabilitation. Thanks to the staff, my former teammates and the fans as well. I felt at home from the very first moment in London,” he said in an Instagram message.

Van Ginkel has made only 4 appearances for the Blues in his eight years at the club. The player was loaned to AC Milan, Stoke City and PSV for multiple seasons during the Chelsea stint. He joined the London club in 2013 from Vitesse.

He had a superb outing for PSV in 2017-18 when he captained them to win the Eredivisie title, perhaps the best season of his career. PSV had to hurdle past some bureaucratic process to speed up the acquisition of the former Netherlands international.

Van Ginkel will now be looking to re-establish himself with the Dutch giants and stay injury-free in the upcoming season.
