Chelsea skipper signs new long-term deal

Chelsea captain Magda Eriksson has signed a new long-term deal with the club which will keep her at Kingsmeadow until summer 2023 according to reports on The Blues’ official website.

The 27-year-old Stockholm-born defender joined the South West Londoners after opting to leave Swedish club Linkopings FC in 2017 and the player has gone on to become a vital member of Emma Hayes’ Chelsea squad.

Since moving to Kingsmeadow, Eriksson has won every domestic trophy as a Chelsea player including two league titles. The player was handed the club captaincy by manager Hayes ahead of the 2019/2020 campaign.

Eriksson has played every single minute of Barclays FA Women’s Super League football so far this season as Chelsea have made an unbeaten start to the campaign.

The player also featured in the FA Women’s Community Shield as her side defeated Manchester City at Wembley and both of The Blues’ group matches in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup. Eriksson’s only goal so far this season came as Chelsea defeated Arsenal 4-1 in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup at Kingsmeadow last month.

The Swede will be hoping to lead her side to another historic victory over The Gunners when the pair meet at Meadow Park on Sunday. Chelsea will leapfrog Arsenal with victory in Boreham Wood.
