According to the Athletic, Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge in the upcoming transfer window.
This comes after the player was not selected to play in the club’s in-house friendly last week. He came on in the later stages and was among two players who did not have a shirt number. The other is academy player Armando Broja.
He also played no part in Chelsea’s friendly with Reading at the club’s Cobham training ground on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old has found himself behind Tammy Abraham in the Chelsea pecking order. He has failed to impress when given the opportunity and has seen Olivier Giroud leapfrog him since. With Timo Werner on his way and Giroud also signing a new contract, Batshuayi has much cause for concern heading into next season.
The Belgian has scored 25 goals in 77 games for the Blues since signing from Marseille in 2016. Although his tally of six goals and two assists in 24 games this season is far from horrendous, he has looked clueless at times on the pitch.
It is clear that the Belgian striker is at best the fourth choice at the club. It will be in both the player and club’s best interests if he is moved on.
The club is making a number of strong moves in the transfer market. It is unfortunate but some players will not be a part of that revolution. In football, however, there is no room for sentiment and the club will have to make a decision.
