Chelsea told to pay €75m to land player named as “new Pepe”

According to AS, Real Madrid centre-back Eder Militao’s market value has increased to €75m (£63m),

Chelsea has been credited with an interest in the Brazilian international over the past week and it appears they would have to match or surpass that figure in order to secure the player’s signature.

Militao has emerged as a key player for Real this season, with the 24-year-old having established himself as a regular starter following the departures of Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos in the summer.

AS have labelled Militao as the “new Pepe”, drawing comparisons to the Portuguese defender who played for the La Liga club between 2007 and 2017.

Whether Chelsea are genuinely pursuing Militao, it remains to be seen. The European champions will likely be in the market for a new centre-half at the end of the season, with the futures of Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen all up in the air. The trio could all leave Stamford Bridge when their contracts expire in June.
