Chelsea have made some stunning signings as the transfer window closes.
However, according to reports, Chelsea came close to signing Miralem Pjanic before the midfielder joined Barcelona in the summer, shock reports have emerged.
Despite the fact that Jorginho has played a big part in the Chelsea side this summer, there was alot of transfer speculation towards the back-end of the window that Chelsea were ready to let the midfielder depart the club.
And that led to rumours in the media that Chelsea were very keen on trying to secure a transfer deal for Pjanic, who is regarded as one of the best midfielders in world football after developing very nicely with the Italian Champions.
According to Fabrizio Romano on the Here We Go podcast, Chelsea were very close to completing a deal which involved an exchange between Pjanic and Jorginho.
It’s claimed that Frank Lampard is a huge admirer of Pjanic and was keen for the midfielder to make the move to Stamford Bridge. However, Pjanic turned down Chelsea’s approach as he favoured a switch to Barcelona.
The 30-year-old left Juventus to join Barca in a €65 million (£59m) deal in June, while Brazilian midfielder Arthur made the move the other way to the Serie A champions. J
Pjanic is a top-class midfielder and it is very easy to see just why Chelsea were so keen to wrap up a deal and let Jorginho go, especially as the Italian does not get many assists or goals for the club.
