There has been alot of Chelsea transfer news in the media over the past few days, but the signings of Jan Oblak and Nathan Ake could make the club real title challengers.
Frank Lampard is no fool and knows that he needed to spend some serious money before the opening of the transfer window to add a new winger and a new striker to a side that is lacking in top-class quality in some areas of the pitch.
Chelsea have already spent £80 million on securing a transfer deal for both players, and are still expected to delve into that transfer kitty in order to compete for the Premier League title and not just Champions League spots.
Now the latest in the media is that Atletico Madrid stopper Jan Oblak has become the number one target for Lampard ahead of the summer window as he looks to replace Kepa, who has not been improving since his move to Stamford Bridge.
Oblak is easily regarded as the finest stopper in the game right now and with a £120 million price tag on his head, he will not come cheap especially as Madrid will not want to let him leave the club.
Now, there has been alot said about Chelsea trying to make a move for Kalidou Koulibaly in the transfer window, that they should spend big money to land the man, but Napoli will play silly-buggers about a deal which means that Chelsea would probably miss out.
And that means that they should make a move for Nathan Ake, that Bournemouth player that is a full Dutch International and already one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, despite the struggles of the Cherries.
He is great on the ball, has the pace to cover any mistakes at the back, is very good in the air despite his relatively small size, and is at that stage of his career that he is now ready to play for a big club.
He would cost around the £40 million mark, but considering many are worried about the defence over at Chelsea, adding him to the side would improve it. If Chelsea can add both Oblak and Ake to the side in the summer, then they will be challenging for those top two spots next season, these are two players that would make a real impact on the side.
