“Could’ve done it earlier but…. – Tuchel finally reveals why he make his first substitution at 78minutes in Brighton clash
Following Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Brighton, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed why he waited until 78 minutes before he made his first substitution of the game which was a triple change.
However, Brighton boss Graham Potter made his first substitutions on 62 minutes and final substitution on 76 minutes, all before Tuchel made his first substitution.
When asked why he waited until 78 minutes to make the triple substitution against Brighton, Tuchel said: “If I had the impression we needed them earlier I would’ve done them earlier. You never know and time passes by.
“We could’ve done it earlier but I had to wait to see if Brighton changed their structure, we struggled with Marcos Alonso on a yellow card, so there were reasons not to do it earlier. It’s why we did it in the last 15 minutes.”
The Blues barely threatened the Brighton goalkeeper and Tuchel believes Chelsea’s poor performance was due to the players being tired.
Why asked why Chelsea failed to beat Brighton despite taking the lead, Tuchel added: “Because we are tired. We are mentally tired and physically tired. You can see it in our performance. It’s as easy as that.”
