Bayern Munich goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer has extended his contract until 2023.
There has been alot of transfer speculation in the media suggesting that Frank Lampard is keen to sign a new stopper in the summer transfer window as he has not been impressed by the performances of Kepa, who has struggled between the sticks.
And that has led to some speculation in the media suggesting that we are ready to make a move and try to bring in a new stopper at the end of the season, to make sure that they have a more reliable stopper between the sticks for when next season starts
Neuer has spent almost a decade at Bayern Munich, playing close to 400 games for the German club and winning seven Bundesliga titles and the Champions League, but there are reports that Bayern have signed a younger stopper for next season, meaning that he may be forced to sit on the bench.
There had been some hope for us in their quest to sign Neuer during the summer window, but in a statement, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that Neuer has now agreed to stay at the club.
He said: “FC Bayern are very happy Manuel has extended his contract until 30 June 2023. Manuel is the best goalkeeper in the world and our captain.” Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic also said: “The contract extension is an important sign for FC Bayern as well as for Manuel. Together we have created a win-win situation.
“That’s what was very important to Manuel and to us. Manuel stands for the continuous success of FC Bayern, for responsibility and world-class standards. I am delighted about our continued work together.” Neuer simply brilliant and it is a shame that he is staying put, but it would have been a shock to see him make the move to the Bridge!
