Defender announces ‘i am happy’ after Chelsea OFFICIALLY announce fifth summer deal
According to reports, Melang Sarr, a defender for Chelsea and Monaco, has officially agreed to a loan move to the French Club.
The excellent defender arrived at Stamford Bridge with high hopes of being one of the best defenders in the league, but he hasn’t received enough playing time for that to happen, so he’s been a bit of a bust.
Sarr is now the fifth player from Chelsea’s first team to leave this summer after Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, and Andreas Christensen all left at the end of their contracts to join Inter Milan on loan and Real Madrid, respectively.
At Stamford Bridge, first-team action was never guaranteed, especially with Thomas Tuchel wanting to add a few new defenders and Sarr prepared to depart Chelsea once more this summer.
Numerous clubs expressed interest in the defender, but Monaco ultimately won the battle to sign him on a loan until the summer of 2019. The club’s sporting director, Paul Mitchell, has expressed his happiness with the arrangement.
He said on the club website: “It is a great joy for us to welcome Malang to the Club. His technical profile and versatility will bring new solutions to our defensive unit. At 23 years of age, Malang knows the demands of the top level.
“In our desire to give our squad more experience of the biggest games, he has the profile we were looking for and he will be a great help to us to face the demanding schedule that we have.”
Speaking to Monaco’s website, Sarr said: “I am very happy to join AS Monaco and to be back in Ligue 1, a league in which I started and which I know well.
“I would like to thank the Club for its confidence.”
