Defoe backs Chelsea as he gives shocking top four prediction, rules out two top teams
Chelsea is presently sixth in the Premier League standings after six rounds of play, 5 points behind league-leading Arsenal.
Chelsea’s season has gotten off to a bad start with two losses.
Surprisingly, former Premier League player Jermain Defoe is rooting for Chelsea to defeat league leaders Arsenal and Manchester United.
Asked for his early take on the top-four, Defoe told Football Daily: “I’m not going to say who is going to win it, who will finish second and that.
“But for me, the top four teams in the Premier League this year, when I look at the squads, are Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea.”
Spurs signed Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster, and Defoe believes the signings will help Tottenham compete better this season.
On Tottenham’s unbeaten start to the season, Defoe said about his former club: “It’s so early, they need to take each game as it comes.
“You have to believe you’re going to win every game and then we’ll see what happens. Of course there’s optimism, the fans are excited because of the signings and the manager.”
