Del Piero tells Chelsea to complete £86M signing of powerhouse
Italian star Alessandro Del Piero has advised Chelsea to sign Mathijs de Ligt rather than Napoli center-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
There has been a lot of conjecture regarding who Thomas Tuchel will sign this transfer window due to the fact that the German needs to add a few defenders to the group.
Being two of the finest in the world, Koulibaly and De Ligt have both been connected with moves, especially since Koulibaly’s contract expires next summer and De Ligt is having trouble reaching an agreement on a new contract.
Nevertheless, despite all the rumors, De Piero has come forward and sensationally advised the team to pursue De Ligt this transfer window rather than Koulibaly.
Del Piero told ESPN: “I think De Ligt has more pace and more promise than he has shown so far.
“He is playing a different way in Italy in terms of the system, in a line of four. How you address things [defensively] we do a little bit differently in Italy than in the Premier League
“He also has the potential in physicality. He is strong, he is fast, and has no fear at all. That’s why it could be a good move for Chelsea.’
“On the other side, Koulibaly is kind of perfect at this time, because of his age.
“He’s 31, he knows what to do. But if you want to buy a player, go for the youngest one, because you have more time to spend [improving him].”
