Dimitar Berbatov never played for Chelsea, but he’s acting a bit like an agent for us now.
The former Bayer Leverkusen striker has a column with Betfair, and he used it to discuss the future of probably the best player to feature for his old team since him – the boy wonder Kai Havertz.
Havertz scored twice in the Bundesliga restart at the weekend, leading Berba to wonder whether Chelsea might be interested in bringing him in as a replacement for Eden Hazard.
“I think it is interesting to see Chelsea linked with him, they haven’t really replaced Hazard since he left and it was always going to be difficult to do so,” the former Spurs striker said.
“I think for sure they need to go for a young player with a lot of football ahead of them, if that is the case then they will also have to be patient as well because sometimes young players need time to adjust to the physicality and speed of Premier League.”
We think it’s very interesting too, Dimitar. The problem is that every team in Europe has their eyes on the attacker, and it will be a real battle to make sure we’re the ones who sign him.
Still, seeing as we’ve not yet spent that Hazard cash, we should be able to outbid them all – if we want to, and if we’re ready to take a risk on a player who looks like he has the potential to be as big a player for a club as Hazard was for Chelsea.
