Jesper Gronkjaer has advised Ajax midfielder, Donny van de Beek, to consider a move to Chelsea in the summer transfer market and compared the Dutchman to Frank Lampard.

Van de Beek was a key part of his sid’s side that won a domestic double and reached the UCL semi-finals last term and his outstanding performances this campaign have attracted interest from some of Europe’s elite clubs.

The likes of Barcelona and Manchester United have been strongly linked with Van de Beek and reports in the Netherlands at the start of the year stated that Real Madrid had agreed a deal with de Joden to sign the 23-year-old.

But Donny insisted last month that there is no such agreement in place and the COVID-19 crisis has cast further doubt over a potential transfer move for the midfielder.

However, Jesper – who left Ajax to join the Blues back in 2000 – has urged Van de Beek to consider a move to Stamford Bridge if he does make a move this summer. The ex-Denmark international believes Tottenham would also be a good fit for Donny.

‘I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at Real Madrid or Barcelona but I would rather see him at a club just below that,’ Jesper told Goal. ‘For his style of play alone, clubs like Tottenham or Chelsea would be a better fit. They are still top clubs and he is more like Frank Lampard, that kind of player.’

He added: ‘He is a big guy, box-to-box and takes good long shots. But he is not as technically gifted as other players that have come from Ajax. He is a player you can always get a certain level from.’
