€80m star leaves door open to Chelsea move – report
According to reports, Roma striker Tammy Abraham, hasn’t ruled out going back to his old team Chelsea.
The 25-year-old left Stamford Bridge in 2021 after Thomas Tuchel caused him to lose his starting position, and he had a great first season in Rome, scoring 27 goals and dishing out six assists in 53 games in all competitions.
Chelsea is thought to have negotiated a buy-back clause with Roma in the £34 million transaction that sent Abraham to Roma that is estimated to be worth roughly €80 million (£70.3 million).
Asked whether he would be interested in a return to Chelsea if they triggered the clause, Abraham told Ojora Babatunde: “My focus is to do exactly what I did last year here.
“I’m happy here, the team is good, the manager’s good, the city, the fans… I’m happy. But you never know the future. Only God knows the future.”
Abraham is still finding his place with Roma this season after manager Jose Mourinho re-jigged his attacking lineup to incorporate new signing Paulo Dybala, managing just two goals in his first ten games of the campaign.
Whether Chelsea will trigger their buy-back clause remains to be seen, but what is clear is the Blues’ desire to remodel their attack over the coming months.
Talks were held with AC Milan over Rafael Leao in the summer, while Chelsea are already working hard to strike a deal to sign RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku, for whom they are prepared to pay a little over his €60m release clause to ensure they get a deal done early.
Chelsea are also one of a handful of teams to have asked Leipzig about incoming youngster Benjamin Sesko, who has already agreed to join the Bundesliga side from sister club Red Bull Salzburg next summer.
