Why Chelsea should sell Tiemoue Bakayoko permanently
As per Le10 Sport (h/t The Sun), Paris Saint-Germain have held talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko. He currently plies his trade with Monaco. The Blues signed him for £40m.
Bakayoko, 25, was recognized for his impressive performances with Monaco, especially in the 2016/17 season when the French outfit lifted the Ligue 1 title. He earned a move to Stamford Bridge at the end of that season.
However, after a poor season with Chelsea, he was sent on loan to AC Milan and was again on the move last summer back to his former side. But he has been nowhere near his best and thus, Chelsea should look to sell him permanently this summer.
Frank Lampard has done a stellar job so far in his first term in charge as the manager of the Blues. Despite having to do with injuries to a lot of key players throughout the campaign, the manager has guided his team to 4th position in the league table.
The youngsters in the squad have performed well, with Tammy Abraham leading the line ahead of Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi. The English youngster has already scored 13 goals before he fell victim to injury. In the midfield, Mason Mount has been valuable to the squad. The Blues have a plethora of midfield talents in Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho – all of whom have been regulars.
Apart from that, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who has missed the season with a major injury, would also be available next season. Scottish youngster Billy Gilmour has also risen through well through the ranks.
In that regard, selling Bakayoko would do a world of good for the Blues. Though the Frenchman has made 20 appearances in Ligue 1 this term, he has not done well. Monaco are also not willing to exercise his buy-back option, as per the report.
The former Rennes man has lost his form and could be a waste of resources for Chelsea if they hold on to him. With the emergence of Gilmour, who is capable of playing in both the advanced role and from a deeper position, Chelsea must part ways with Bakayako.
