Eva Carneiro’s situation since leaving Chelsea finally revealed
Eva Carneiro, a sports medicine doctor from Gibraltar, is arguably the most well-known health worker in the English Premier League. Before joining Chelsea in 2009, she worked for West Ham United and the English women’s national team.
She spent two years with the reserve team before being promoted to the first team in 2011 under Andre Villas-Boas. She went on to work for other managers such as Roberto Di Matteo and Rafael Benitez, but it was with José Mourinho that she had the problem that led to her departure.
Carneiro and chief physiotherapist Jon Fearn were chastised by José Mourinho after rushing onto the pitch to treat an injured Eden Hazard in Chelsea’s first match of the 2015/16 season against Swansea.
According to Mourinho, the injury did not require medical attention, and Carneiro’s dash onto the field means Hazard will be pulled out, leaving Chelsea with nine men following an initial red card.
On Carneiro, Mourinho allegedly used an insulting Portuguese term that translates to ‘daughter of a b**ch.’ Carneiro finally departed Chelsea and Mourinho was sued by her legal team. She now owns and operates a private clinic in Central London that specializes on sports medicine.
