Finally, Former Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro worked at Chelsea for 6 years from 2009 to 2015. However, in August 2015, Eva had a row with Jose Mourinho that led to her exit from the club as well as how she had a desire to pursue greater equality and justice in football.
Late in the game against Swansea City at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho was pissed at her for running onto the pitch when Chelsea were in search of a goal, and allegedly called the physiotherapist ‘filha da puta’ (daughter of a b***h/w***e).
Caniero refused to accept a £1.2 million settlement offer and sued the Blues, with the employment tribunal lasting until the summer of 2016. The lawsuit was then settled on confidential terms.
Speaking to talkSPORT about the incident with Mourinho, the former Chelsea doctor said: “It’s impossible to go through something that I went through for the best part of a year of my life and not be changed by it. But it hasn’t put me off at all.
“In football, whether it’s racism, child abuse, athlete safeguarding and respect for the medical treatment – a change of culture is needed to change the things which are ugly about it.
“Chelsea fans are always expressing respect and admiration for the job I did, which fills me with happiness. They saw the work I did and they’re not concentrating on things that were embarrassing or completely unwanted.
“I was one of the first – and we just have to normalise this conversation. It’s going to happen, there are good female doctors and we need a balance. Diversity works in any environment so let’s just normalise it. It’s 2020, let’s get over this.”
