Chelsea trash Watford 3-0 at Stamford Bridge last night, following some fine performances from the players.
However, Frank Lampard made some drastic changes, as the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso and Tammy Abraham were dropped to the bench.
Asked whether Chelsea’s changes for Watford are a direct response to the mistakes made against West Ham, Lampard admitted that it was both as a result of the past game as well as keeping his squad fresh.
Lampard told Sky Sports: “Not necessarily, it’s a mixture. “A lot of teams are making changes right now because clubs are playing games every three days and fitness can be an issue.
“But we made some clear mistakes against West Ham. I’m not one to pick out individuals and that’s maybe a job for behind closed doors. “Collectively we need to accept what happened and collectively we need to put it right.”
Lampard added: “We’ve had the chance to close gaps and jump teams, but it’s a sign of where we are and we’ve got work to do to get to where we want to be.
“It’s frustrating but it’s how you bounce back. We have to realise the position we’re in in terms of fighting for the Champions League places and move forward.”
