Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has send a clear message to his players following heavy defeat against the Blades last night.
However, in Lampard’s post-match after the defeat, the head coach said that he had ‘learnt a lot from his team’s spineless performance‘, it was clear that a number of those on the pitch now have serious doubts over their future.
The most worrying part about the 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United was the lack of commitment and fight. Individual mistakes are one thing, a lack of effort is a whole other.
Below are five players with a challenge on their hands to prove they should be part of next season’s squad.
Kepa Arrizabalaga: Another weak performance from the world’s most expensive goalkeeper.
Andreas Christensen: Just not good enough. The Dane’s lack of physicality was criticised by Lampard following the defeat away to Everton before Christmas – another Saturday when this soft-centred team were bullied – and little has improved since then.
Kurt Zouma: Having made a match-winning tackle late against Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening, Zouma was back to a display of sloppiness last night.
Toni Rudiger: The German should be Chelsea’s first-choice centre back but since returning from a long-term injury his form has been patchy.
Jorginho: There were already question marks before this first start since the resumption but it was notable how passive Chelsea were in possession with the Italian restored at the base of midfield.
