Forget Lukaku as Chelsea set to sign 27league goals Bundesliga World-class striker
According to Mirror, Chelsea have identified Patson Daka as an alternative to Romelu Lukaku. The Blues have been mighty impressed with the Zambian striker’s exploits for RedBull Salzburg and are keen to sign him.
It is public knowledge at this point that Chelsea are on the lookout for a new and prolific goalscorer. The pursuit of a new centre-forward is very much understandable given the situation of some of our current options in the striker position.
Initially, Chelsea wanted to re-sign their former striker Romelu Lukaku. The Belgian is coming off the back of a splendid season at Inter, pushing Inter to the title. However, Chelsea might have to look in a new direction after Lukaku admitted that he was going to remain at Inter.
Chelsea are now looking at Patson Daka
In looking for alternatives, Chelsea have stumbled upon Patson Daka of RedBull Salzburg. Daka began his journey with Nchanga Rangers in his homeland before joining Kafue Celtic. He then spent half a season on loan with Liefering before joining RB Salzburg in the summer of 2017.
Though he initially struggled in the club’s senior set-up, he was a part of the side which won the league in 2017/18 and the following campaign. Last season, he led the team to the league title with 31 goals and also helped Salzburg lift the Austrian Cup title.
He has been prolific this season as well, with 34 goals and 12 assists in just 42 games. The bonus for Chelsea is the fact that Daka has been valued at a modest £17m.
Patson Daka was also, Austrian Bundesliga player of the season 2020-21 after registering 27 goals and 7 assists in 27 league appearances.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Romelu Lukaku was there to be seen but now the striker wants to stay back at Inter.
The club do need an established striker to solve their issues up top. A move for Daka could be smart from Chelsea given his price tag. They could save themselves a gargantuan amount of money in doing so.
