Former Chelsea goalkeeper reveals one ‘BIG’ reason why Mendy isn’t a world-class goalkeeper

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy isn’t a world-class goalkeeper just yet.

This is According to former Chelsea goalkeeper Rob Green.

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer had hailed Mendy as a world-class goalkeeper but Green disagrees.

Green told Stadium Astro: “His rise to fame has been so quick that it’s been nigh on impossible for him to be able to nurture his game as quickly as he can do and be able to get up to speed to be called world class.

“It was five years ago that he was in France in the queue picking up his unemployment benefit because he didn’t have a club, he didn’t have a job and he had nowhere to go.

“Five years on, he’s playing for Chelsea in the Premier League. It’s that quick.”

Before adding: “Go look at his history, go look at how many games he’s played – it’s not that many.

“And it’s actually a really steep learning curve. So to call him world class yet is too soon purely on the basis he’s only been playing professional football for four or five years.”
