Frank Lampard blasts £48m-rated Chelsea star for poor performance in Arsenal defeat
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has criticised Timo Werner following his lacklustre display in the 3-1 Premier League defeat at Arsenal on Boxing Day.
The Germany international has been in a poor run of scoring form and he went goalless for the 10th straight game after a disappointing first half display where he squandered possession on numerous occasions.
Hence, it was not a surprise that he was replaced him with Callum Hudson-Odoi at the interval and the England international made his mark by grabbing the assist for Tammy Abraham’s consolation strike.
Speaking after the game, Lampard did not hold onto his criticism for Werner, who has been pretty poor in front of goal for the Blues over the past few weeks.
“For today Timo wasn’t giving us enough with or without the ball. Some of it we have to give him time. I keep saying the same thing because it’s a different League, but we also have to get there quickly,” He told.
Chelsea FC have recently lost their way with three defeats from four matches and they could drop to eighth on the table, should Tottenham Hotspur pick up a point today.
Next up, they have home games against Aston Villa and Manchester City and neither encounter will be easy, judging by their recent form.
Villa have been one of the surprise packages. They are above the Blues on the table in sixth on goal difference and have two matches in hand.
