Giroud finally responds after breaking Cristiano Ronaldo record
Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud took Cristiano Ronaldo’s Champions League record on Wednesday night after he became the oldest player to score a hat-trick in the competition.
The Frenchman netted a perfect hat-trick against Sevilla, scoring with his right foot, left foot and a header.
Giroud scored another from the penalty spot to help Chelsea secure a 4-0 victory over Sevilla.
Giroud’s hat-trick saw him become the oldest person to do so at the age of 34 years and 63 days old, beating Ronaldo’s at the age of 34 years and 35 days old.
After scoring four goals against Sevilla and breaking Ronaldo’s record, Giroud told BT Sport: “I didn’t know until two years ago that you called it a ‘perfect’ hat-trick.
“When I scored against Kyiv in the Europa League I said ‘what do you mean?’ It was good, I had good assists, though.
“I will try to carry on like that to finish the good work of the team.”
