Chelsea look to go head to head with Manchester United in their chase for Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho this summer.
Both clubs look to be interested in signing the England international when the transfer window reopens, but there are many factors that could play a part.
The biggest factor is that Sancho wants Champions League football next season, according to the reliable David Ornstein of The Athletic.
This is a massive boost for Chelsea and swings the pendulum in their favour. This is due to the fact that as things stand, they qualify for the Champions League sitting in fourth place in the Premier League, and Manchester United miss out.
Due to UEFA’s latest plans to allow leagues to qualify teams for European competitions based on sporting merit next season, this would mean that Chelsea are highly likely to qualify for the Champions League if this season is void as it stands.
No, Sancho’s preference is to play for a club who’ll be in CL next season & that’s just 1 of many considerations. He’ll want whole package to be right – manager, team-mates, role in side, club standing/project/vision, contract etc. No agreements yet + not necessarily a favourite
