Bayern Munich seem to have given up on Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho, after the Barcelona player has failed to perform on loan at the Allianz Arena.
Barcelona signed Coutinho for an outrageous £154m deal in January 2018, but the 27-year-old failed to impress at the Nou Camp. He was then shipped off on loan to Bayern Munich, but it still didn’t work out for him.
Bayern Munich will not be activating the buyout clause option that was attached with Coutinho’s loan deal from Barcelona, and according to reports, the Bavarians have offered the 24-year-old the no.10 shirt – currently donned by Coutinho.
According to Bild, Bayern want Manchester City’s Leroy Sane as their marquee signing this summer and have given up on Coutinho already.
Chelsea are believed to be the next destination for the former Liverpool star, and former Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves, believes Coutinho still has a lot to offer and will make a lot of teams better.
“I love his game, I love him as a player,” Hargreaves said, as quoted by Daily Express.
“He is obviously going through a bit of a tough time after leaving Liverpool.
“Barca didn’t work and Bayern hasn’t really worked, but there is still plenty of time and I would never count him out. “I would love to see him back in the Premier League. He makes a lot of teams better. “Premier League teams are probably the only ones with the capacity to sign him and, let’s be honest, when he was here he was a dream to watch.”
