Graham Potter confirms 2 Chelsea stars will miss Salzburg clash as Potter faces new injury decision
The Blues are back to action on Wednesday as they kick off their second game of the Champions league.
However, Edouard Mendy and N’Golo Kante will be absent from Chelsea’s Champions League match against Red Bull Salzburg, according to new boss Graham Potter.
On September 14, when the Blues meet the Austrian team at Stamford Bridge, Potter will oversee his debut game in charge of the team.
Following the Blues’ unexpected 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb last week, Thomas Tuchel was fired. Under Potter, the team from west London will now start a new era in the Champions League.
Two of Chelsea’s top players will be absent from the game, raising some injury concerns. Potter told the media prior to the game (according to Football.london):
“Edou will miss the game and so will NG [Kante].”
Mendy was caught in the ribs by Jarrod Bowen during the Blues’ Premier League game against West Ham United on September 3. He missed their subsequent Champions League loss to Zagreb.
Kante, meanwhile, picked up a hamstring injury during the side’s league encounter against Tottenham Hotspur last month and has been sidelined ever since.
