‘He deserves it, lets be sincere’ — Tuchel reveals who deserves to win the Ballon d’Or among 30-man shortlist

‘He deserves it, lets be sincere’ — Tuchel reveals who deserves to win the Ballon d’Or among 30-man shortlist

Five Chelsea players made the 30-man shortlist for this year’s Ballon d’Or.

However, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Cesar Azpilicueta and Romelu Lukaku all made the shortlist, but it’s Jorginho who’s the favourite from the Chelsea team to win it.

Jorginho was named as UEFA’s best player of the year while Kante was named as the UEFA best midfielder of the year.

Blues boss who was named UEFA coach of the year has now backed Jorginho to win the award.

Tuchel wants a Chelsea player to win the award so it would boost confidence in the player and the team, but he doesn’t rate the awards highly as he thinks it’s senseless to compare players.

Tuchel said: “He deserves it, he is one of those who deserve to win the Ballon d’Or.”

“He is a very intelligent player and it’s a pleasure to be his coach. The list of 30 candidates came out yesterday, but for me this list is not important as I do not judge them in that sense.

“These awards don’t make much sense to me. Obviously, the players crave these awards, but it is impossible to make a real comparison between all these players.”

He added: “Who should say who is the best? Everyone deserves to win it from a certain point of view.

“Obviously I would like someone from Chelsea to win it as it would increase confidence.

“But it is not the most important thing in the world of football.”
