‘Here we go’ – Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea sealed 10th summer signing

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are set to sign Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams.

The Blues have triggered the USA captain’s £20m release clause and the player will now undergo a medical ahead of a switch to Stamford Bridge:

As Romano mentions, Chelsea had been in negotiations with Leeds so they didn’t have to pay the full £20m upfront but it has since become clear that wasn’t possible.

With personal terms having already been agreed, it is believed that it won’t be long before the transfer is officially announced.

Adams’ fitness situation

One slight concern is Adams’ recent injury history. He has been sidelined for a lengthy period with a hamstring problem, having played his last game for Leeds in March.

You wouldn’t think that a medical will be an issue as Chelsea would have known about his fitness situation before deciding to make a move for the American.

Even so, Adams did not play for Leeds against Cardiff at the weekend or in the Carabao Cup versus Shrewsbury Town on Wednesday, so it appears he won’t be available for selection straight away.

Chelsea have now made 10 signings this summer

Adams will become the Blues’ 10th recruit of the summer transfer window. Six first-team players have been brought in, including Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochokwu, Angelo and Robert Sanchez.

3 other youth players in Alex Matos, Diego Moreira and Ishe Samuels-Smith have also been signed. An 11th addition could be on the way, with Deivid Washington expected to join from Santos in the near future.
