“He’s becoming a leader in this Chelsea team”, “Build the team around him” – Joe Cole says 21-years-old Chelsea star will ‘ spark’ Chelsea up after Brentford defeat

Joe Cole did pick out Chelsea’s Cole Palmer as one positive from this afternoon’s loss against Brentford.

Chelsea’s poor home form continued on Saturday afternoon by losing 2-0 versus Brentford at Stamford Bridge.

Ethan Pinnock and Bryan Mbeumo scored second-half goals for Brentford, who have now won three consecutive away matches against Chelsea.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues side wasted opportunities in the final third this weekend. In contrast, Brentford were a lot more clinical when they went forward.

It means Chelsea sit on just 12 point from their opening 10 Premier League games.

Pundit and former Chelsea star Joe Cole did give praise to Cole Palmer during this afternoon’s latest defeat.

He thinks that the 21-year-old was a “bright spark” for the hosts in the first half. Unfortunately, Chelsea couldn’t build up ahead of steam in the second period and ran out of ideas.

“Cole Palmer was the outstanding player on the pitch. He looks like a player unaffected by what’s happened here in the last 12 months,” Cole told TNT Sports 1 (1:25pm, 28 October).

“He goes and gets on the ball. He’s confident… He was constantly getting on the ball. He was dictating. He was a real bright spark in a very average performance.”

“… I think he’s fast becoming a leader in this team.”

Cole Palmer needs help
Chelsea simply need to find more going forward, which we’re sure the supporters are bored of hearing.

The Blues did score eight goals in their previous three games prior to the loss against Brentford, but even then there’s still not a ruthlessness around the penalty box.

Nicolas Jackson struggled to lead the line on Saturday. Noni Madueke and Raheem Sterling couldn’t nail their final ball, too.

Some Chelsea fans on social media did hail Palmer as the only positive in the Brentford loss.
