‘He’s like a new signing’: Paul Merson says Chelsea have had ‘great news’ earlier this week

Paul Merson thinks Armando Broja will now feel like a new signing for Chelsea.

Armando Broja, 22, is finally back playing for the Blues after a long layout with a serious knee injury.

The striker, who’s a product of the Chelsea academy, is ready to provide serious competition for Nicolas Jackson at the top end of the pitch.

It means that Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino will now have two exciting youngsters to choose between in the No 9 position. Incidentally, we wouldn’t be shocked to see Jackson play on the left in certain games and support Broja.

Broja started his first game of 2023 earlier this week, scoring in Monday night’s 2-0 away win against Fulham in the Premier League.

Paul Merson says it’s “great news” that the 22-year-old centre-forward is back and playing for Chelsea.

“Armando Broja also looked like a big threat up front, and he’ll be like a new signing for Chelsea. It’s great news for them that he’s back, and he could save them a lot of money in future,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

The Athletic recently claimed that Pochettino intervened in the summer to ensure Chelsea kept Broja amid interest from the likes of Newcastle United, Roma and AC Milan.

We’re certainly thrilled that Broja is still in the squad!

It may take time before the Albania international is back to his very sharpest after such a long absence, but there’s already a lot of positive signs in his performances back on the pitch.

He provides the Blues a proper focal point with both his pace and strength as a striker.
