‘He’s not a top player for Chelsea’, ‘Don’t start him again’ – Tony Cascarino warns Pochettino against starting 20-year-old star against Everton

Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill has been one of the regular players so far this season at Stamford Bridge.

However, pundit Tony Cascarino has raised question marks regarding the 20-year-old.

Levi Colwill, who’s a product of the Chelsea academy, has emerged as a first-team star lately.

The left-footed defender has already played 17 games across all competitions so far this campaign, which is the joint-second highest across the whole squad.

It’s obvious that Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino does have faith in him.

Speaking on The Game Football Podcast (7 December), Cascarino claimed that Colwill shouldn’t yet be in Chelsea’s best XI.

Cascarino said: “Colwill, I don’t see him as a top player. I think he’s still not ready to be in the Chelsea back four.”

Levi Colwill not ready for Chelsea

We’d like to disagree with the suggestion that Colwill isn’t ready to play in Chelsea’s best line-up.

It’s fair to say that the young defender is looking a little vulnerable at times, so some of the criticism aimed towards him is justified.

However, let’s remember that he’s regularly played out of position this season.

Colwill, who was excellent out on loan at Brighton last year, is a ball-playing centre-back with so much potential. It’s no coincidence that he’s already made his senior England debut.

However, he looks a little bit uncomfortable on the many occasions that he’s played as the team’s left-back.

We’re confident well get the best from him once he can get a run of starts at centre-half.

Speaking via Sky Sports’ YouTube channel recently, Cole Palmer backed Chelsea teammate Colwill to go right to the very top with his ability.
