He’s not ready to face Chelsea – Conte rules out new signing ahead of Chelsea clash

On Sunday, Tottenham will play host to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in what is anticipated to be another another competitive London derby match.

Due to their summer purchases, Tottenham has received a lot of support for having a great season.

Spurs manager Antonio Conte provided a roster update prior to kickoff, revealing that Clement Lenglet, who was on loan from Barcelona, will not play in this match.

A minor issue with Clement Lenglet, Conte acknowledged during a press conference on Friday. He won’t be available for the match against Chelsea, and he definitely won’t be available for the following match against Wolverhampton [Wanderers]. The other athletes are all top-notch.

“It’s a little problem of fatigue [with Lenglet] and he’s a bit tired in his adductor. Nothing serious, only a precaution but it’s not good to take a stupid risk for one game.

“He’s having training sessions apart but I think it’s good for him to recover well and to have a good training session before he comes back with us.”

Conte also admitted that he’s pleased with the squad at his disposal compared to last season, as Tottenham greatly improved the squad during the summer transfer.

“In our squad, I am very happy because I repeat compared to last season we improve our squad with Richi up front, but don’t forget we lost [Steven] Bergwijn,” said Conte.

“Then [Bryan] Gil last season went on loan and now he is in the squad in this 20 players. I think as a midfield, we improved with Bissouma and with Winks also and then with Lenglet behind.

“I think we sign players with common sense to find players with the right characteristics to help us to improve the quality and to have players reliable and ready to have a good impact, not an impact so and so if I have to call them to play.”
