‘Honestly, am still wondering why am not nominated’ – Chelsea player protests on latest Ballon d’Or decision
Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy was not nominated in the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or award this year.
However, Mendy was in fine form in the Champions League for Chelsea last season as the Blues won the Champions League for the second time. Surprisingly, Mendy who had a phenomenal campaign and was named UEFA best goalkeeper of the season didn’t make the nominees for the award.
The Senegal international has vowed to keep working hard but has claimed that playing for the France national team would have earned him a nomination, as he pointed out how African players get overlooked.
“It’s something that motivates me and pushes me to work. Honestly, I am wondering.
“If I had played for France and had taken part in the Euro, would we have this debate and this reflection?” Mendy told Canal Plus via Wiw Sport.
