‘How have we let this happen? John Terry slams latest Chelsea board decision on star player

According to latest reports, Chelsea will lose key defender Antonio Rudiger at the end of the season, after the 29-year-old would leave the club for free.

However, Chelsea were unable to reach an agreement with the German international before the club was faced with sanctions – meaning no further negotiations could be done.

Former Chelsea captain John Terry has made known his feelings clear about Rudiger’s departure on social media as he replied to a post announcing the news on Instagram with: “How have we let this man go.”

Surely, the Chelsea board must take a share of the blame. Rudiger’s contract should have long been settled before it got into its final season.

Also, the board didn’t recognize the worth of the player during negotiations as they refused to offer him anything close to what he wanted for months before the sanctions came, when other top clubs were circling around him.

Truth be told – the cost of signing a new top player to replace Rudiger will be more than triple of what the club would have paid to keep him, when you consider transfer fee plus wages. Besides, how many world-class defenders are available out there?

It’s also a shame that Andreas Christensen is leaving for free, and Cesar Azpilicueta would have been in the same boat had it not been a clause that was triggered in his contract. Moreso, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are also nearing the end of their contract, and the club is yet to make a decision.

Of course, the sanction have played a part, but Chelsea dug its own grave beforehand.
