‘Huge boost for Chelsea? as CAF set to cancel African Cup of Nations after latest discussion
According to latest reports from French outlet RMC Sport, the Confederation of African Football have scheduled a meeting to discuss the possibility of cancelling the African Cup of Nations which was scheduled for January 2022.
The Africa Cup of Nations may be cancelled due to the emergence of the Omicron coronavirus variant.
The competition was originally supposed to take place in June and July of this year but was eventually moved to January 2022 because of ‘unfavourable climatic conditions’ during the summer.
The tournament is due to take place between January 9 and February 6 in Cameron, with Chelsea stars Edouard Mendy and Hakim Ziyech set to take part, missing a number of Premier League fixtures as a result.
However, The Daily Mail have reported that AFCON bosses are adamant that the tournament won’t be cancelled.
If the African Cup of Nations is cancelled, it would be a boost to Chelsea as the Blues won’t lose key players like Edouard Mendy and Hakim Ziyech.
