According to John Mikel Obi, Nicolas Jackson occasionally receives too much criticism and has the potential to become a “top class number nine.”

Jackson made his way from Spanish team Villareal to Stamford Bridge last summer, and he has made an impression in his first English season.

The 22-year-old has tied Didier Drogba’s record from his first season in blue with 13 goals in the Premier League and 16 goals overall.

Jackson has come in for criticism for the amount of chances he’s missed, and has himself admitted he should have scored more goals this campaign.

The Senegal international has impressed with his all round play, and if he can improve on his finishing then he has all the attributes to develop into a top striker.

Despite the missed chances Jackson is really important to how the team play, he creates a lot of chances and stretches the opposition with his pace, and when he was away at the Africa Cup of Nations Chelsea did miss him.

Former Chelsea midfielder believes the Senegalese can develop into a top striker for the Blues in the coming years, and thinks the forward gets too much criticism.

‘”I think Nicolas Jackson gets a bit too much stick at times”, Mikel told BetVictor.

“I know he has missed quite a few chances, but he’s still got 13 goals in the league so far and you forget he’s only 22 and in his first year at the club.

“He never stops running and does so much good work in terms of his hold-up play.
