‘I don’t need someone to tell me that’ – Courtois sends strong message after losing FIFA ‘Best Goalkeeper’ to Mendy
Ahead of Champions league clash between Chelsea and Real Madrid, Thibaut Courtois speaks about him losing the FIFA ‘Best Goalkeeper’ award to Edouard Mendy recently.
Thibaut Courtois said: “I don’t need someone to tell me I’m the best, I play thinking I’m one of the best.
“I can’t change a person’s opinion because some like more spectacular goalkeepers and others who play more with their feet.
“I think it would be better if the awards were given by former players instead of journalists because they have never been under a goal. There are a lot of exporters to better decide who is the best goalkeeper.”
However, Courtois seems to have a very high opinion of himself, despite Mendy having outperformed him this season as well.
The Belgian goalkeeper has kept 17 clean sheets and conceded 34 goals in 41 appearances for Real Madrid so far this season. Mendy, however, has kept 18 clean sheets and conceded just 25 goals in 36 appearances for Chelsea.
