“I have to stop them because of this” – Cole Palmer finally reveals why he stopped Madueke and Jackson from taking the penalty as he reveals what happened in the dressing room

Chelsea defeated Everton 6-0 at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

For all of Chelsea’s artistry on display, a rather bizarre incident has been the talking point of this game between Chelsea and Everton.

A bizarre thing happened in the second-half when Chelsea were leading 4-0.

Referee Paul Tierney had pointed to the penalty spot for a penalty, following a harsh tackle on Cole Palmer.

Nicolas Jackson initially took the ball to take the penalty, but Noni Madueke tried to take the ball from the Chelsea striker, which caused an argument between the pair.

Chelsea captain Conor Gallagher then took the ball and handed it to Cole Palmer, who has been a regular penalty taker for Chelsea.

Even at that point, Noni Madueke and Jackson were still furious that Palmer was going to take the penalty.

Cole Palmer would take the penalty and score the fifth goal for Chelsea.

Palmer has now revealed why he was bent on taking the penalty, and what happened in the dressing room.

“Other players wanted to take it which is understandable,” said Palmer.

“The game is 4-0 but I’m the penalty taker and I wanted to take it so at the end I took it.

“I think we’re just trying to show everyone wants to take responsibility maybe it was a bit over the top the argument but everyone wants to just win and help.

“It’s nothing major, we were laughing and joking about it but the gaffer has told us now.”

Alfie Gilchrist, who scored the final goal of the game, which was his first senior goal for his boyhood club, added: “We’ve all spoke about it we’ve all come in and brushed it aside.”
