‘I knew Chelsea will win the UCL after beating us’- Porto defender reveals

Chelsea signed Malang Sarr on a free transfer last summer from Nice. The young centre-back headed to Porto on loan after signing for the Blues and he had a decent spell in Portugal.

Interestingly, Chelsea met Porto in the quarter-final of the Champions League, and Sarr watched on from the bench as his two teams went toe to toe in the Champions League quarter-final.

Chelsea won over the two ties, as the Blues won the game 2-1 on aggregate. After a first leg 2-0 victory, Chelsea had to fight hard to beat Porto in the second leg as the Portuguese side scored a late goal to bring tension towards the end of the game.

Porto defeated Juventus in the second round of the Champions League, and they were indeed a surprise package.

Sarr has now admitted that after watching Chelsea beat Porto at the time, he knew Chelsea would win the Champions League.

Sarr told the official Chelsea website: “After the two games, I thought Chelsea were going to win it, for sure.

“It is very difficult to play against Porto,” he went on.

“Teams struggled to match the defensive intensity and stay at the same level. Chelsea were struggling a little, but not as much as the other teams did. They were really solid and they did the job. From then I was sure they would do it.”
