“I supported Chelsea since my childhood”- Italian attacking midfielder wish for Chelsea move this summer
Atalanta attacking midfielder Matteo Pessina has revealed he was a fan of Chelsea growing up. The 23-year-old, who got his first cap for Italy in November, says he closely followed the careers of Blues legend Frank Lampard and former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard:
“10 years ago they were Lampard and Gerrard, for their personality and presence on the pitch. I dreamed of them at night. The first a little more imaginative, the second more ‘captain’. English football fascinates me, I support Chelsea and the Premier League is the best league of all.”
Up until last season, the Italian wasn’t a first-team regular for Atalanta but, after manager Gian Piero Gasperini converted him into a more attack-minded midfield player, he has begun to realise his potential.
Pessina scored seven goals in 35 Serie A appearances last season and, despite starting this season with a knee injury, he has come back to the fore in recent months, helping Atalanta to fifth in the league table.
Whether Chelsea would be interested in the midfielder, it is doubtful, considering manager Thomas Tuchel already has the likes of Mason Mount and Kai Havertz at his disposal who can play in his position. Even so, he could be one to watch out for in the future.
