‘I think he made the right decision to join Chelsea’: Shaun Wright-Phillips believes star player will suit Chelsea style of play

Former Chelsea and Manchester City player, Shaun Wright-Phillips has expressed optimism that Cole Palmer will flourish at Stamford Bridge, given the bright start he has made to his Blues career.

Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City over the summer— in a deal worth £42m.

Given that Chelsea are a top Premier League side, the decision by Pep Guardiola, to let the player go continues to puzzle some, especially after the brilliance he showed for his side at the start of the season.

Palmer was involved, and scored for Man City during their Community Shield clash with Arsenal, as did he in their Super Cup win against Sevilla at the start of the season.

The England youngster has already netter twice for Chelsea since he joined the Blues, with one of his goals coming against Arsenal, after he stepped up to convert a penalty in the first half.

And while speaking recently with Betway, Wright-Phillips heaped praise on the player, who he backed to continue flourishing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

“You never really see moves like that coming, but as a player with how well he’s been doing, he wants to play more,” Wright-Phillips said.

“At a team like City, we watched with Phil Foden’s journey and saw it’s hard for them to get a full break into the team with the players that are in front of them.

“I think the decision that he made in going to play more football is certainly going to benefit him in the long run. We’ve seen what he can do – I think he’s a fantastic player, and I think he will suit the way Chelsea play. Especially with that more aggressive approach to him getting into areas and playing the number 10 role.”
