“I was a little bit disappointed with him, he makes Chelsea suffer” – Darren Bent slams Chelsea player performance this season
Football pundit Darren Bent admitted that N’Golo Kante massively underperformed in the 5-4 loss against in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
However, Talking to talkSPORT, Darren Bent suggested that N’Golo Kante’s performance was quite a bit under-par in the quarter-finals against Real Madrid. Chelsea made a fantastic comeback in the second leg. But Carlo Ancelotti’s side made a late comeback into the game and won the tie on aggregate.
Chelsea were fantastic in the first seventy minutes of the second leg of the tie. Mason Mount scored a fantastic goal in the 15th minute. Antonio Rüdiger scored from a corner in the 51st minute to make the game 3-2 on aggregate. Marcos Alonso scored the third goal for Chelsea, but the goal was ruled out because of a handball by VAR. Timo Werner did level proceedings in the 75th minute.
But Rodrigo scored in the 80th minute from a fantastic outside of the boot pass from Luka Modrić to level proceedings on aggregate. With the game heading into extra time with both sides having everything to play for, Karim Benzema scored yet another header in the tie in the 96th minute to hand Real Madrid the lead on aggregate.
Talking to talkSPORT about the Champions League game and N’Golo Kante’s performance, Darren Bent said:
“You could say Chelsea were undone by three moments of magic. Chelsea were superb,” “To go to the Bernabeu and dominate possession as they did, play as well as they did. Every single one of their players stepped up. Probably the only one I was a little bit disappointed with was Kante. Firstly, He kept giving the ball away. We are not used to seeing Kante perform in this manner. So that was probably the one I was a little disappointed with.”
“He doesn’t seem to be the player he’s been in previous seasons,” This season I think he’s struggled in possession. He’s given the ball away. “I think in the first leg he was taken off at halftime. Finally, that doesn’t happen to N’Golo Kante. “As we saw last season when they won it, he steps up in these types of games. He didn’t do it. It will be interesting to see what they (Chelsea) do in the summer.” he added.
