‘I was mentally broken but Kante laughed’ – Rudiger finally reveals what happened between him and Kante after Cup final
Few players go on to win the renowned Champions League in their careers, but the Chelsea players made history when they won the competition in 2021, defying all expectations.
Chelsea were not among the favorites to win the Champions League at the start of the 2020-21 season, but under Thomas Tuchel, the Blues looked like a different team, winning the competition in a turnaround season.
Rudiger has reflected on the incident and says that it was an emotional and wordless moment for him and N’Golo Kante at the time.
When asked what the team did after winning the Champions League last season, Toni Rudiger told DAZN:
“I was mentally broken. I just sat there with N’Golo Kante — because of our religion a bit away from alcohol — looked at each other and didn’t say a word.
“Suddenly, N’Golo started laughing and then all of us had to laugh. When N’Golo laughs, often he starts crying too, he tears up.
“Then he said, ‘Unbelievable, we did it’.”
