Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has played N’Golo Kante in a more advanced midfield role, which has garnered lots of criticisms from pundits and fans alike.
It was Antonio Conte who succeeded in signing Kante back in 2016 from Leicester City, and the Italian used the Frenchman to good effect as he went on to win the Premier League in his first season at the club, with many hailing him as the best defensive midfielder in the world.
Conte has shown some support to Lampard for featuring Kante in a number 8 position and he believes that the World Cup winner has the quality to play anywhere in midfield.
“In my opinion he can play in every position in midfield,” Conte told Sky Sports.
“We are talking about an amazing player, a top player, he is fantastic with the ball, without the ball.
“When you have N’Golo in your team you can think you are playing with one player more.
“You can find a smile on his face every day, he’s a very positive guy, one of the best players I’ve had in my career as a coach.”
