‘I’m going to play against them, but was disappointed when Chelsea told me to leave‘ – Former Chelsea player reveals

According to reports, Jon Russell, a former Chelsea sensation, joined the club when he was six years old and stayed for 13 years before being released last year.

The 21-year old midfielder has stated that the way he left Chelsea, where he has spent his whole career, wounded him.

Russell, who is now playing for Huddersfield Town, is aiming a return to the Premier League Russell grew up at Stamford Bridge with players like Callum Hudson-Odoi and Billy Gilmour.

Speaking about how he left Chelsea, he said: “I’ve been brought up in a Prem environment since I was six, so the target is to get back there.

“It was hard to say goodbye to everyone at Chelsea as I had made so many friends.

“But that is football — it’s all part of the journey and, although I was disappointed to leave, it was important not to lose any sleep over it.

“It was a case of taking one step back to take two steps forward by coming to Huddersfield.

“I always had confidence in myself and wasn’t going to panic.”

Russell also admits that he looked up to Ruben Loftus-Cheek while coming through the ranks.

He said: “At Chelsea, you have to keep standards high.

“I was looking up to Ruben Loftus-Cheek. I had similar injuries to him through growth spurts — he was someone I could relate to.”

On a possible return to the Premier League where he’d face his former club, Russell added: “It’s crazy to think we’re potentially three games away from the Prem.”
