The Blues are set to break the club’s transfer record for a player as the Blues search for a striker ahead of next season.

According to reports, the club is eventually settling for Belgium international Romelu Lukaku, and Chelsea may have to spend over £100m on his transfer.

Lukaku has always commanded a huge transfer fee right from when Chelsea signed him as an 18-year-old from Anderlecht, and with Chelsea set to splash £102m on his signature, it would make the 28-year-old the most expensive player ever in accumulated transfers.

Chelsea signed a teenage Lukaku for £20m in 2011 and sold him for £28m. Everton sold him to Manchester United for £75m, and Lukaku’s total combined transfer fees paid for him will reach £293m if Chelsea agree to meet Inter Milan’s £102m asking price for the Belgian, according to Transfermarkt (via Sky Sports).

Lukaku’s figure would make him the most expensive player ever ahead of Neymar whose accumulated transfer fees currently stand at £279m.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer fees make him third in accumulated transfers following his moves to Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus that totalled £207m.
