However, with Chelsea 2-0 up in the second-half against Real Madrid, Marcos Alonso fired in a stunning shot into the net shortly after the hour mark. Unfortunately, Alonso’s goal was ruled out by VAR for hand ball.
Speaking after the game, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel revealed his disappointment at the referee for not going to check the incident himself.
Asked about the decision, Tuchel said: “I did not see the goal but I told the referee I was super disappointed he did not check it on his own.
“In a match like this where you have a certain line to whistle, you should stay the boss, and not give any decisions like this to somebody in a chair who is isolated from the atmosphere and the referee’s certain style.
“He should stay in charge and check on his own, then he could explain it better. It’s just my opinion.”
